The Ayyad family operated delis around the Bay Area for thirty years before opening Zaki Kabob House two years ago in a location that many locals considered "cursed" because so many other eateries at the address had failed. The Ayyads transformed it into a homey, cozy, picture-bedecked setting where they serve Levantine classics such as shawerma, tabouleh, kibbeh, and, of course, kabobs. The house specialty is rotisserie chicken, whose spice rub and marinade are closely held secrets of owner Ramzy Ayyad's Palestinian mother. Vegans can choose from a wide range of selections; standouts include fava-bean salad, falafel burgers, baba ghanoush, and Lebanese lentil-rice mujadara.
