Since the most recent of the
Paradise Lost documentaries in 2011, all of the West Memphis Three — convicted of murdering three little boys in 1993 and serving prison time ever since — have been cleared of charges and released. Documentarian Amy Berg (
Deliver Us from Evil, Bhutto) takes over the reins for Part Four of this investigative-reporting masterpiece by focusing mostly on Damien Echols, the prosecution’s chief bogeyman and putative leader of the three “satanic cult” teenagers swept into prison on a tsunami of fear and circumstantial evidence. But the real murder(s) of the eight-year-old boys has never been brought to trial. So at least one more doc needs to be made. Written by director Berg and Billy McMillin. (147 min.)
