Trustworthiest Weathercaster

Bill Martin

When KTVU chief meteorologist Bill Martin first jack-in-the-boxed onto our TV screens a few years ago for the ten o'clock news, his face was a distraction. He looked like a cross between Prince Charles and a ventriloquist's dummy. But the man stood and delivered. Today, while the real Prince Charles has gone saggy and gray, the blue screens and radar waves of Martin's profession have been kind to him. He has developed character lines. But enough superficialities: This is broadcast television we're talking about. The ever-chipper Marin resident has made us forget all about Pat McWhatshisname, because Martin really has a handle on the whole marine layer, patchy clouds, inland valleys, tule fog, Russian River floods, wind shear thing we have going on in the Bay Area. If Bill says it's raining tomorrow in E'ville, wear your Tims, Jim. And his wardrobe, in stark contrast to one of his colleagues in particular, is the epitome of upper-echelon-media taste.
