T.M. Wolf

When: Fri., April 20, 7-9 p.m. 2012

Sound, the debut novel from writer and hip-hop aficionado T.M. Wolf, is composed as if on staff paper, using musical notation and sampling beats. The story revolves around Cincy, a Jersey Shore grad-school dropout who takes up work at a boatyard and spends spare time pursing an elusive woman while being hounded by mysterious police. Portions of the book emulate multi-tracking -- layering dialogue, thought, and sound -- blurring the lines between music and the written word in what Wolf calls "a literary remix." His reading at Books Inc. Alameda (1344 Park St.) on Friday, Apr. 20, will incorporate sampling, where sections of the book are read over the sounds of the city. 7 p.m., free. 510-522-2226 or BooksInc.net
