If postal workers can go postal, why dont grocery workers ever go grocery? Thats the unspoken question in writer-director Steve Conrads bright, observant comedy -- dare we say social satire - about two assistant managers (Seann William Scott and John C. Reilly) competing for the managers position at a Chicago supermarket. The two guys are dumb as donuts, but Scott, Reilly, their supporting cast, filmmaker Conrads dialogue, and his comic pacing are sharp, witty, and to the point. Sort of a Dilbert riff, only lower on the food chain. Fine characterizing by Fred Armisen, Gil Bellows, and an underutilized Lili Taylor (86 min.).
