Owners Marcelo Abusada and Christian Momberg, two young guys from South America, have cojones. Both shed restaurant careers in middle-of-the-road Italian — easy money east of the Tunnel — to take a chance on tapas with a mostly Peruvian flavor. The mashed-potato-and-crab terrine called causa, a Lima specialty, expresses the owners’ exuberance, and tavern-style ceviche has an honesty that shines. Not everything sparkles, but the Patio’s unusual concept has a lot of raw charm.
