In our 2013 Best of the East Bay (the new) Authentic, we focused on the people, products, and services that are considered “authentically” East Bay, perhaps in a new way. This means restaurants, bars, boutiques, galleries, and other businesses that define (or are redefining) the genuine or real East Bay experience: forward-thinking comfort food; bars that have the casualness of your living room, but with upscale cocktails; unpretentious boutiques that feature local designers who are reinventing East Bay style. It also means places or businesses that have been around for a while and are considered an indispensable part of the fabric of East Bay life.
