A “friendly” and beautiful practitioner of witchcraft named Elaine (Samantha Robinson) moves to a small town — Eureka, California, to be precise — and gets on everyone’s nerves with her distressing mating habits. Seems Elaine is hard to please, and the eligible men start dropping like flies. Filmmaker Anna Biller evidently intends this nominally routine sexploitationer, with its Sixties throwback production values and wacky tangential sequences, as a quasi-feminist exploration of the feminine mystique. But from here it looks more like a softcore sex romp with new age accoutrements and a large supply of attractive women who like to whip up love potions and wear Renaissance Faire-type outfits. Biller wrote, produced, directed, designed the costumes and sets, and even composed four of the songs. Mythic or moronic? Neither, but prepare to get your mind blown (120 min.).
