Aisholpan, a thirteen-year-old girl of the nomadic Kazakh people who roam the Mongolian steppes near the Altai Mountains in Central Asia, becomes the first female in her tribe to train and hunt with a wild eagle, in this instant classic of a nature documentary. Director Otto Bell, a former maker of “branded content” videos, knits together quite a story arc for Aisholpan, who captures an eaglet with the help of her admiring father, trains it to obey her, and competes in the annual Eagle Festival. Two kinds of movie thrills for the price of one — the ethnographic and the purely adventurous, equipped with wonderful digital scenes of the exquisite but rugged terrain. In Kazakh with English subtitles (87 min.).
