The Aquarium Age

For the week of November 19, 2008.

The Wheel of Life continues to move in a different direction this week, and even though the course isn't completely charted, and despite pervasive uncertainty about any number of key issues, profound shifts, individual and collective, also continue. Planetary patterns continue to reflect this transformational process, and as they do, human reaction to the intensity covers a broad emotional spectrum. On one end, some can barely contain their enthusiasm for the possibilities that lie ahead, while on the other, the immediate struggle for survival controls perception of reality. Most of us may find ourselves vacillating between those two extremes, not quite sure how to find the safety of middle ground. Fortunately, the planets provide the potential for moderation in the midst of turmoil. It's just that establishing and maintaining a reasonable view could require a Herculean effort.

Several signatures contribute to the intensity. (1) The on-going Uranus/Saturn opposition continues to generate erratic patterns, particularly in the financial arena. (2) One week from now on November 26, Pluto will leave Sagittarius and move into Capricorn. As Pluto begins a new cycle, so do we. Pluto's first entry into Capricorn earlier this year from February-June gave us a preview of what its next cycle is likely to include—and yes, that's when really negative talk about the economy began becoming the only thing to talk about. And of course, now it's all we talk about, because part of what will happen as Pluto transits Capricorn is we will look at the societal structures related to money: capitalism and communism come immediately to mind, but we will also look more closely at how financial institutions are structured, and most importantly, why they are structured that way and what that tells us about what needs to change.

(3) This also is the last week of Pluto's thirteen-year journey through Sagittarius, the Sign where we search for wisdom. Pluto, always interested probing the depths, revealed the shadow of Sagittarian wisdom — ignorance — in all its blazing glory, from leaders who could barely speak in sentences to fear-driven fundamentalists of every denomination whose only way of coping with what they can't understand is violence. Yet Pluto also answered the expansiveness of the Sagittarian reach for the stars, as it combined with Uranus in the mid-nineties to generate technology that unites us despite our differences. Technology that offers the promise of eradicating ignorance by infusing everyday life with vast resources of knowledge and information that makes the world smaller even as it deepens our awareness of its immensity.

(4) But that's not all. Uranus goes direct on November 27 — Thanksgiving, here in the United States — and as Uranus prepares to turn around, weekly routines are likely to feel shaky. We always feel a wobble when Uranus changes direction, and this week is no different. So as always with Uranus, expect the unexpected.

As you move through the uncertain terrain of this unsettled week, you may be tempted to freeze rather than flow, to cling rather than release, to force rather than allow. When possible, soften. And as always, remember to be kind.

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

Aries March 21-April l9

There's nothing you like more than exploring new territory, so don't hesitate to follow those urges. While some ventures may prove too bland, others will definitely scratch that itch for adventure.

Taurus April 20-May 20

Try not to equate kindness with weakness, especially as you handle interactions with friends, family, and co-workers. Make a gentle touch your constant companion, and you'll build enduring alliances.

Gemini May 21-June 21

There's no need to feel like a leaf being blown by the wind. Even if it means making constant adjustments to accommodate unforeseen circumstances, hang on to your vision.

Cancer June 22-July 22

You may not be privy to all the information impacting your situation. So rather than react, wait until more is revealed. Patience won't be easy, but your reticence will be rewarded.

Leo July 23-August 22

Rather than getting caught up in anxiety, do whatever it takes to keep your heart open and calm, even if that means laughing at just how seriously you're taking everything — including yourself.

Virgo August 23-September 22

The stress of recent circumstances is receding, permitting a certain lightness of being. Let this easier energy invigorate your spirit and renew your enthusiasm for the future.

Libra September 23-October 22

Rely on your inner strength, and refuse to dissipate your insight talkin' trash. Be circumspect about who you counsel, and remember, while silence can be awkward, it also can be the prefect solution.

Scorpio October 23-November 21

Expect a strong desire for as much quiet time as possible. And while I'm not suggesting you completely withdraw, honoring your need to hermitize could be beneficial, especially if it allows you to rest and recuperate.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21

The task is figuring out how to synthesize your bent toward magical thinking with a pragmatic approach that will help you make it through the night. It won't be easy, but if you're determined to find a blend, you will.

Capricorn December 22-January 19

If you need help, ask for it — there's no need to be ashamed of your lack of expertise or experience. Put pride aside, gather a competent team of advisors, and get to work.

Aquarius January 20-February 18

Stay true to yourself but also stay cautious about dismissing opinions that challenge your point of view. It won't be easy maintaining a neutral stance, but it will be extraordinarily useful.

Pisces February 19-March 20

Yes, you are being asked to dive head first into unknown waters, and yes, again, that's a scary proposition. But it isn't necessarily negative or dangerous. So before you reject the whole idea, do some research and quantify your actual risk.
