Sylvie Simmons

When: Thu., Aug. 29, 7:30 p.m. 2013
Price: free
It’s hard to think of someone better suited to be a biography subject than Leonard Cohen: Not only does the Canadian writer and musician have legions of devoted fans who’ll no doubt snap the book up in a heartbeat, his life story — which begins as a middle-class Jewish kid in WWII-era Montreal — is the stuff of easy narrative, or possibly legend. And it’s hard to think of someone better to write that biography than Sylvie Simmons, a longtime music writer and critic who’s carved out a career writing about other messianic, mysterious figures in rock (previous book subjects include Neil Young and Serge Gainsbourg). Join Simmons as she presents I’m Your Man at Pegasus Books (2349 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley), most likely to rapt attention of more than a few of those devoted fans.
