Athletes are no strangers to paternity suits. Jason Kidd, Larry Bird, and Jim Palmer have fathered children out of wedlock; former Orlando forward center Shawn Kemp has at least seven kids with six different women. No one, though, tops Gage, a compact ladies' man who claims 56 offspring so far. This little guy loves the girls so much that the mere mention of the word "girlfriend" sends him into a spinning frenzy. Not only is he a flirt, he's a champion pug. Owned by Robert and Keven Birdwell of Storybook Pugs in Danville, Gage -- whose unwieldy full name is "Ch. Full Moon I'm Engaging" -- has earned the title of the Northern California Pug Club's Stud Dog of the Year for four years in a row. The Birdwells, who approve all of Gage's partners, prefer breeding dogs the old-fashioned way rather than using artificial insemination. A "tie" can last anywhere from two to twenty minutes. "Gage is gentle and kind and sweet to the girls," Keven says. "He wines and dines them. If the job isn't getting done, it's not for his lack of experience."
