Skirts for Sasha

When: Sat., Dec. 14 2013
It’s the kind of story that incites the distinctly unhappy combination of anger and complete powerlessness: In early November, Maybeck high school student Sasha Fleischman — who was born male and identifies as agender — was set on fire by another high-schooler while sleeping on an AC Transit bus. The story prompted Fleischman’s classmates to organize a “Skirts for Sasha” show of support, and this Saturday, Maybeck neighbor Mrs. Dalloway’s (2904 College Ave., Berkeley) is getting in on the action with a fundraiser: Wear a skirt (or, really whatever you’d like) and mention Sasha’s name, and the store, whose staff will all be be-skirted as well, will donate 10 percent of your purchase to the local, awesome, LGBT youth nonprofit the Pacific Center. It’s small, but it’s something.
