Longtime Tony! Toni! Toné! saxophonist Ric Alexander and the brilliant guitarist Levi Seacer — formerly with Rosie Gaines, Sheila E., and Prince and the New Power Generation — were members of a Richmond gospel group called The Voices of Joy three decades ago. Now they’re back together in the saxophonist’s band and on his new CD, which mixes funky soul with smooth and not-so-smooth jazz. Alexander, who has also worked with Timex Social Club and Jody Watley, blows barking tenor sax in the King Curtis tradition and frequently plays it and an alto simultaneously. On Monday, he and Seacer will be joined at Yoshi’s (510 Embarcadero West, Oakland) by keyboardist Lorenzo Hawkins, bassist Dan Parenti, drummer Tommy Bradford, percussionist Wilson Brooks, and vocalist Leah Tysse for a gig celebrating the CD’s release.
