Reading of Independent Comic Books

When: Sat., Feb. 1, 6 p.m. 2014
Price: free
Expensive to produce, inherently niche-y, and often maligned, comic books are far from immune to the consolidation and contraction that have taken hold of the publishing industry of late — which is why comics produced beyond the DC-Marvel monolith matter more than ever, and why stores like The Escapist (3090 Claremont Ave., Berkeley) are so important. Celebrate the weird and wonderful world of indie comics this Saturday when the shop hosts a joint reading by Michael Olivo, Ellen Addison, Dane Martin, Niv Bavarsky, and Aaron Shunga, whose presentations will each by accompanied by experimental music.
