Wall-E and the Toy Story series are the subject of serious scholarship. Pixar expert Heather Holian, assistant art-history professor at the University of North Carolina, gives a talk on studio animation's emerging role as fine art at the Oakland Museum of California (1000 Oak St., Oakland) on Saturday, Jan. 8. This coincides with the museum's "Pixar: 25 Years of Animation" exhibition. 2 p.m., free (with museum admission). MuseumCa.org
