Pisces Stirs Emotion, But Not All Is Sweet

For the week of March 3-9, 2010.

We're in the deep this week, figuring out how to stay afloat in an ocean of emotion. Tides of feelings — all sorts of feelings — rise and fall, all week long, so don't be surprised if just about everyone suffers from extreme mood swings. Eddies of enthusiasm merge with waves of anxiety and seas of stress coalesce with currents of certainty, and whether you call this soup a "mess" or a "challenge of consciousness," one thing is certain: Emotional surges are likely to overwhelm even the most dispassionate among us. Do your best to stay calm, but if you do experience a meltdown, try not to judge yourself or others too harshly. Be especially kind to children, who may simply be in reactive mode, channeling the intensity around them. Also, be aware: Some of us are in dire need of a meltdown, particularly those who have been under pressure for a long time and are simply holding on by a thread. If you can, find healthy ways of letting loose.

The source of this week's emotionally charged waters is four planets — Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Uranus — and a star — the Sun — in Pisces, the Sign of the sea. Known for empathy, sensitivity, and boundless imagination, Pisces is the Sign where we long to merge with the vastness of being: no separation or differentiation, just unity. And while this Piscean urge to dissolve into the oneness of being can be an authentic expression of spiritual practice, the dissolution of boundaries doesn't always work within the practicalities of daily life. It's difficult to be one with a neighbor who lets the dog run free or refuses to put a lid on the garbage can or a loved one who won't cooperate with what you know to be the best plan.

The pull between idealism and realism exacerbates an already moody flux, which explains why many of us could find ourselves bobbing between extremes. One minute the possibilities are endless; the next, limitation stifles hope. Moderation is probably the best buoy, so do your best to find the middle ground and then make every effort to stay afloat. The good news is that these Piscean waters are not pernicious. Strong, yes, but the only danger is the possibility of getting caught in an undertow of receptivity or susceptibility to suggestion, unable to distinguish your sentiments from others'.

Mars is the other significant astral contributor this week. As it prepares to go direct on March 10, Mars will move at a glacial pace, defying its own fire, as well as the fire of Leo. The slower-than-slow pace of the planet that lives to win the race could drive many of us, even the terminally patient, to new levels of angst. Breathe. Breathe, again. And remember, change is the only constant. Translation: It's just a matter of cosmic moments before we are out of the emotional soup and moving forward at the speed of light.

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon sign, read that, too.

ARIES Patience has never been your strong suit, but this week, if you make it your constant companion, you'll find the strength and stamina to endure these waves.

TAURUS A full social calendar has you longing for more than a few moments of solitude. So rather than saying "yes" to every invitation, be discriminating and only attend those functions that will bring you joy.

GEMINI Your cup runneth over with a wealth of career opportunities. You may not be interested in most of them, but if you take the time to consider the alternatives, you will broaden the scope of your success.

CANCER You are in a deeply philosophical phase, exploring a wide variety of belief systems. The good news is that it isn't necessary to limit yourself to a one-way point of view. You can stay flexible and open.

LEO Refuse to let yourself get bogged down in negativity. While the immediate situation needs improvement, the difficulties won't last forever. Trust in a beneficial outcome, and you'll be in a better frame of mind to create it.

VIRGO Your life is all about relating, and it makes no difference whether or not you are partnered. What's essential is recognizing how important it is to feel connected to those you love — people, pets, or plants.

LIBRA Rather than focusing on assembling the right team for the job, concentrate on how to manage the increased workload. You can't delegate until you've organized and prioritized your goals.

SCORPIO You're in a hugely creative flow, but it doesn't have to overpower or overwhelm you. Although it may be impossible to actualize all your ideas, keep track of them; eventually you will find the time.

SAGITTARIUS Whether it is under the covers or on the couch, you are in the mood to snuggle in at home. Have at it, and allow yourself to relax, refill, and restore mind, body, and soul.

CAPRICORN Even your natural reserve won't be able to hold back a flood of heartfelt conversations with family, friends, and coworkers. Embrace this effervescence; most of what's said will be joyous and healing.

AQUARIUS It is about the m-o-n-e-y, but it is also about valuing yourself enough to ask for what you deserve. I'm not suggesting you over-inflate your role; I'm simply advising you to honor and respect your contribution.

PISCES You couldn't hold back your exuberance even if you tried, so rather than waste one moment of this precious time, enjoy the spotlight and let it enhance your natural charisma.
