Donner Lake Sprint Triathlon Quarter-mile swim, six-mile bike, and two-mile run in the Sierras. Swim is a rectangular course in Donner Lake, average July temperature 64-69 degrees; bike is on a paved road with 1,000-foot total climb, an out-and-back course; run is also paved. East Bay Red Tail Adventure Race Put together by Big Blue, this sprint-style race is for hardcore summer-sport addicts, with $2,500 in prize money. In five to eleven hours, your team needs to complete four to six miles of kayaking, twenty-plus miles of mountain biking, a four-to-six-mile trail run, and an intense orienteering course. Big Blue requires that you have all your own gear (although limited kayak rentals are $60), and the entry fee is $150-$600. BigBlueAdventure.com/public

Kayaking the Scenic Sausalito Waterfront The Oakland Museum of California and Sea Trek (Sausalito's kayaking center) present an afternoon on the bay. There is an hour-long training session before the group heads out, so beginners are welcome. 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. $80 per person, $65 if you're a CirCA member. More info: circa@museumca.org

No Attitudes Allowed Beach Doubles Volleyball Tournament Coed and men's doubles at Main and Beach streets in Santa Cruz. Just for fun. Tournaments take place monthly; nearly five hundred teams participated in 2003. $24 per team for a whole day of competitive volleyball and the opportunity to the meet players at the intermediate/advanced level of ability (no current CBVA players, please). Check-in is 8:30 a.m. on the day. Each participating player is asked to bring a nonperishable item of food for donation to People's Pantry at check-in time. Tri for Fun #2 Seventeenth Annual 400-yard swim, 11-mile bike, 3.1-mile run at the Shadow Cliffs Regional Park in Pleasanton. The swim is in a warm lake, so no wetsuits are necessary; the biking exits the park onto pavement; and the run is on a packed fire trail. This race is for novices, grudge matches, and fun. Bike Tours of Historic Oakland 5.5-mile, slow-paced bike tour focusing on Oakland's history and architecture led by the Oakland Museum's bike-tripping docents. Donner Lake International Triathlon 1.5K swim, 40K bike, 6.5-mile run in the Sierras. Swim is a rectangular course in Donner Lake, average July temperature 64-69 degrees; bike is on a paved road, climbing Donner Summit (a 1,200-foot climb), an out-and-back course; run is also paved. 7:30 a.m. at the West End Beach of Donner Lake in Truckee. Second Annual Jail Break Run 5K on flat figure-8 course, 10K on primarily flat course with one grueling hill that is the same hill the Alameda County SWAT team trains on. Save Our Sports Golf Classic The West Contra Costa Unified School District is hosting this golf event at the Richmond Country Club. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m.. The fee is $250 per person and all profits go to restoring the programs recently cut at schools in the district.
