On Looking at Things, Empty and Otherwise

When: June 2-July 8 2012

Do you like challenging visual art: work that elevates us past our own preconceptions of what beauty and conceptualism is, that's existentially glamorous and radiant, yet downright mystifying? For more than five years, Swarm Gallery (560 2nd St., Oakland) has been offering the East Bay exceptionally challenging art, and its new show does not fail in this regard. The work of Ethan Worden in the main gallery, coupled with an installation by Christopher Lopez in the project space, gives us a rather ethereal presentation that nearly evades being considered art at all, and simply becomes philosophy. The show, On Looking at Things, Empty and Otherwise, is a collection of objects made from crumpled paper, delicately cut into grids and given weight with poetic titles that invoke yearning and angst. Through June 9. 510-839-2787 or SwarmGallery.com
