Save to foursquare

There aren’t many other restaurants in Alameda that better qualify as institutions. Take a trip to Ole’s (“since 1926,” the menu proclaims) for good old-fashioned diner food that hasn’t been touched by any of Alice Waters’ gourmetifying minions. As you’d expect from the name, the specialty here is waffles, light, perfectly formed squares that take to syrup and fruit like baked to beans. You’ll probably see half your neighborhood here on a Saturday morning, which makes Ole’s either annoying or charming, depending on how hungry you are.
