The Niles district of Fremont was an early-20th-century silent-filmmaking hub, a unique legacy that still exudes from its lovingly preserved old buildings. Assailable by foot and by car and starting at the NilesEssanaySilentFilmMuseum (37395 Niles Blvd.), the Niles Holiday Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 8 provides an inside-and-out look at vintage houses festooned for the season, then culminates in a reception with live entertainment. Also along Niles Boulevard all afternoon, the Niles Art Walk features local artisans demonstrating techniques such as glass-blowing and chain-mail-making. Noon-5 p.m., $15-20. Niles.org
