Neurosis has been a pioneering force in heavy music for nearly three decades. Its dynamics-driven, cathartic sound is one many bands have tried to emulate but few have delivered with such convincing force. Neurosis performs sporadically, but has lined up two West Coast shows to close out 2013 — including one at The Regency Ballroom (1300 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco) on Sunday. To mark the occasion, the band has assembled an impressive supporting lineup: the recently reunited Santa Cruz hardcore band Bl’ast, which is performing for the first time in more than fifteen years and recently put out Blood!, an album of previously unreleased material; Eugene, Oregon doom trio YOB, which is one of those bands that can play what sounds like one note over and over again and make it seem impossibly heavy; and The Body, an extreme musical duo from Providence, Rhode Island that pushes that boundaries of noise, doom, and misanthropy.
