Native Here Nursery

Looking for the Chlorogalum pomeridianum or the Lupinus succulentus that will draw the most butterflies to your garden? How about a beautifully flowering Rosa californica? The Native Here Nursery, snuggled into a hillside across from the Tilden Park golf course, specializes in custom-growing the East Bay's native plants to help those working to restore the area's natural flora. The nursery sells plants grown on-site from locally collected seeds, with each neatly laid out in plots denoting the plants' place of origin (cities from Pinole and El Sobrante down through Castro Valley, and east through the Mount Diablo area are all represented). The public is invited to help with the seed collecting every Tuesday from May through October, when volunteers stroll local trails bagging seeds for the next year. Collectors meet on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. at the Native Here front gate. The nursery is run almost entirely by volunteers, and therefore is open to the public for sales only during brief slices of time on Friday and Saturdays; however, the plants can be grown to order and special pickup times can be arranged.
