.Most Outspoken Professor

Robert Reich

Former Labor Secretary under President Bill Clinton and now professor at UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy, Robert Reich has been documenting the growing economic disparity between the super-wealthy and the rest of us since long before the words “Occupy” and “movement” became linked. In books, on television and the radio, and at public lectures, Reich makes a convincing case that the concentration of wealth in the hands of the few poses a real threat to our democracy. Reich — whose name, ironically, means “rich” in German — decries the influence of corporate money in politics, noting that he’ll concur with the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Citizens United case that corporations are people “when Texas executes a corporation.” He may be small — he stands less than five feet tall — but with his experience at the highest levels of government, his media savvy, his eloquence, and his passion, Reich’s stature as a voice for social change has no equal in the East Bay.
