French Express is a venerable dance label based in New York, and one of its flagship producers is Moon Boots (Pete Dougherty). Nestled in the contemporary nu-disco style, Moon Boots pulls from Nineties house music and soul samples to wonderfully embody his label’s catchphrase: “Protectors of the feel good.” Like many electronic artists, Moon Boots has cultivated an enigmatic persona. A cursory online search uncovers one image of the artist: the cover of his 2013 single “Love Strong.” It’s a sketch of a man in a space suit, helmet removed to reveal a stoic expression and a pair of sunglasses that reflect palm trees against a pastel sunset. The flier for Moon Boots’ upcoming set is an adaption of the cover illustration of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novella The Little Prince. To Moon Boots and the book’s child hero, space represents limitless imagination and, of course, the feel good.
