The songs of Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Melaena Cadiz lay like soft cotton over steel. There is whimsy and magic in her words, yet her voice is a lightning bolt — glorious, powerful, and bright. Cadiz is cut from the same neo-folk/Americana cloth as Jolie Holland, Joanna Newsom, Stevie Nicks, and Emmylou Harris, but she’s got a sound and style all her own. Her recently released sophomore album, Deep Below Heaven (the follow-up to her 2010 debut, Rattle the Windows), is country-infused pop music of the finest kind. Don’t miss Cadiz at the intimate E.M. Wolfman General Interest Small Bookstore (410 13th St., Oakland) on Monday.
