Despite its name, the decidedly upscale Masala’s strength is in its classic Northern Indian entrées — dishes like butter chicken and mutton kandhari throb with flavor, while educated diners may find that the artfully plated fusion dishes (lamb with jade sauce, spice-rubbed roast chicken) come off a bit too Indian-lite. Still, the East-West appetizers, breads — like the basil-garlic naan and frilly pan-fried mint paratha – and, most of all, the ginger-serrano crème brûlée make Masala a destination restaurant.
