Despite its name, the decidedly upscale Masalas strength is in its classic Northern Indian entrées dishes like butter chicken and mutton kandhari throb with flavor, while educated diners may find that the artfully plated fusion dishes (lamb with jade sauce, spice-rubbed roast chicken) come off a bit too Indian-lite. Still, the East-West appetizers, breads like the basil-garlic naan and frilly pan-fried mint paratha and, most of all, the ginger-serrano crème brûlée make Masala a destination restaurant.
