Philip (Pierce Brosnan), an expat businessman living in Copenhagen, falls in love with Ida (Trine Dyrholm), a Danish hairdresser, at the wedding of their respective children, Patrick (Sebastian Jessen) and Astrid (Molly Blixt Egelind), in a picturesque villa overlooking Sorrento, Italy. The coffee-table harmlessness of director Susanne Bier’s gentle romance is undeniable, with only Dyrholm’s performance as wounded-in-love Ida providing any suspense. Brosnan overplays his role as Philip the mournful widower — or maybe it’s just the dialogue, written by Anders Thomas Jensen from a story he wrote with Bier (In a Better World, Things We Lost in the Fire).
