Nothing demoralizes the avid thrift hound more than sifting through a rack of tangled hangers while kicking the growing mass of clothes scattered at your feet. How many people have already swept down this aisle and snagged all the good threads? Worse is sifting through a mishmash of hats, belts, and scarves people have tossed into a pile that was once neatly separated. On a recent Sunday at Thrift Town San Leandro, there was no fighting for territory in the amazingly tidy and specific aisles (skorts, anyone?). It is still the best place for a mix of old funky threads from the '60s and '70s and newer labels like Calvin Klein, Gap, Jones New York, and Ann Taylor. New stock is put out Monday through Friday, and there's so much to look through that an army of thrifters couldn't pick the place clean. Check out these bargains: a black velvet Guess miniskirt for $1.99, white Adidas sneakers for $5.99, men's blue wool slacks for $1.49, plus plenty of Broadway musicals on vinyl -- and not one, but two lava lamps.
