One of Contra Costa County’s only Sicilian restaurants — in a county where trattorias outnumber bistros five to one — La Finestra still keeps its specialties bashfully hidden amid boring Tuscan standbys. Bypass the penne carbonara and gnocchi in brown butter sauce and order anything with more exotic-sounding pine nuts and raisins, saffron and mint, or orange and fennel. The housemade focaccia sometimes comes to the table straight from the oven.
