Knife Party

When: Fri., Nov. 2, 7 p.m. 2012
Price: $39.50

Hard scored raver cred for its downtown LA music festivals that catered to up-and-coming electronic DJs and veteran hip-hop acts. If fans of the concert brand were worried when Live Nation purchased it earlier this year, the Haunted House Tour should offer some reassurance. Australian producer duo Knife Party will headline the tour, bringing to the decks one of the more diverse sounds in electro/dubstep. Knife Party has been making bass beats for a decade now, previously as members of the electronic rock band Pendulum. The guys first met playing in a metal band, which can be heard in the way they produce sounds with frayed edges -- never sloppy, but chaotic and dark. The duo incorporates the bass drops and wobbles American dubstep fans crave without making them the focal point of the entire track, while steady, hard electro keeps it danceable. Knife Party plays with Tommy Trash, Kill the Noise, Zane Lowe, and Baauer at The Fox Theater (1807 Telegraph Ave., Oakland) on Friday, Nov. 2. 7 p.m., $39.50.
