K. Michelle

When: Mon., Nov. 4, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $26
The at-times-physical anger that made Kimberly Michelle Pate such an audience favorite on last year’s VH1 reality series Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta translates into the raw passion that fills many of the mostly self-penned songs on Rebellious Soul, one of this year’s biggest-selling R&B albums. I could be praying for better things, instead of praying for a man who don’t give a fuck about me, she wails with sustain-rich, Keyshia Cole-like intensity on a ballad titled “Sometimes.” K. Michelle is not without humor, however, particularly when she segues from that tune into “Coochie Symphony,” an operatic ode to her vagina. The 27-year-old Memphis-born soul siren comes to the Mezzanine (444 Jesse St., San Francisco) with Sevyn Streeter, a singer-songwriter best known for her collaborations with Chris Brown, opening.
