Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertaiment revisits its dinosaurs-amok franchise 22 years after the 1993 original, Jurassic Park, and the result is pretty much what we’d expect: bigger monsters, slicker effects, weaker story line, perfunctory acting, and a sense that the thrill has gone out of the dinosaur fad for everyone in the audience, seven-year-olds included. A corporate spokesperson (Bryce Dallas Howard), a dino trainer (Chris Pratt), and a pair of juvie brothers (Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson) run afoul of the latest innovations in dinosaur gene-splicing and get chased around the Jurassic theme park’s island by a rogue hybrid behemoth while pterodactyls attack screaming tourists. Just another day at the summer blockbusters, courtesy director Colin Trevorrow and screenwriters Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Trevorrow, and Derek Connelly, adapting Michael Crichton’s original novel. Run away, run away! (124 min.).
