Sartre posited an unlikely Being that Ònihilate[s] Nothingness.Ó This show ñ with performance Òprelude,Ó photo/video Òcorps,Ó and Butoh ÒpostludeÓ ñ posits a search for that ineffable entity/nonentity, i.e., for meaning in an absurd existentialist universe. Ariel Baron-RobbinsÕ videos and photos depict the artist making drawing gestures, or drawn upon; the artist is both subject and object. Tad BeckÕs photos feature nudes re-enacting indoors the poses previously photographed during outdoor jumps. Peter Dobey explores improvisation in photographs of dramatically posed nude couples and a high-angle video of a floor-bound dancer. Sarah Filley explores the practical and spiritual uses of knots in her installation, video, and photos. Elizabeth Orr and Joey PetropoulosÕ multi-screen video juxtaposes unrelated images and bits of dialogue to suggest, perhaps, our eternal Òfailure to communicate.Ó See website for events. Nothingness runs through August 20 at Krowswork (480 23rd St., Oakland). 510-229-7035 or Krowswork.com
