After a mild-mannered Denver executive (Jason Bateman) goes to Florida to confront the woman (Melissa McCarthy) who stole his identity and is gleefully maxing out his credit cards, they embark on the obligatory road trip and encounter mishaps involving drug dealers, a skip tracer, and the usual sitcom-style change of heart. McCarthy does her funny chubbette thing adroitly and Bateman has the befuddled straight-man role boxed, but without them – oh hell, even with them – this lazy comedy doesn’t mean diddly-squat. Directed unexceptionally by Seth Gordon, Bateman’s handler on
Horrible Bosses. Written by Craig Mazin and Jerry Eeten. (112 min.)
