Re: “Why Are So Many Rays Dying In Lake Merritt, And Sharks At The Berkeley Aquatic Park?

Very well written article, thank you. Nice to learn more about Lake Merritt.
The Environmental Academy at Oakland High bears recognition. O-High is one of the least recognized, most improving programs in OUSD.

Re: “Don’t Call It a Goodbye

I just saw this. We will miss you! I was going to eat elsewhere in San Leandro but to honor your reviews of the East Bay's thriving Asian restaurant scene I will now go eat again at Noodles Pho Me:

This was excellent. Thank you for your article.

Nice to find another broth, quite different from pha & many others, but absolutely delicious.

Re: “Town Business: Oakland City Council Fights Trump Immigration Ban; Police Monitor Contracts Come Back; 2017-19 City Budget

I agree. Oakland's basic city services are still underfunded. Not just police, but also Parks & Rec ($200 million in needed repairs), Pothole Repair & Street Repaving ($300 million in needed funds), Fire Inspectors, reopening closed Libraries, Traffic Safety, lack of School Crossing Guards for children, safe After School programs, etc. etc. etc. People are literally dying while Oakland aggressively engages in national politics but doesn't solve important local problems & provide important local services.

Re: “On the Closing of Hawker Fare

I suggest a conference specifically geared to local restaurants in the medium price & affordable price ranges to help them buy rather than rent. That way they can transcend rent increases & property ownership changes. They would be the owners.

There are several organizations specializing in these type of programs. We've got to help them target & meet restaurants.

Re: “Hawker Fare Aims to Go Out With a Bang

Passing of an OakAsian institution. I'm a white guy so don't know my Asian cuisine as well as natives who've lived it, but I'm putting this right up there with the disappearance of some other OakAsian moderately priced institutions...like the old V's on Webster and Bun Mam Soc Trang near 14th Ave.

Correct me if I'm wrong Luke, as your live and work this stuff.

There are certainly still a few hidden gems at reasonable prices. But these three were as good as anything in NYC. And unfortunately this is one white guy who doesn't have the money to follow V's back to Southeast Asia...
