Designers and models will present looks including carnival inspired feathery performance musas, repurposed and upcycled head to toe outfits embedded with 3D printed and LED imagery, warrior couture with embossed leather, pairs of insects, an entire line of looks inspired by the Tarot Deck, and dozens of other unique creations. The collaborations are funded by grants from The Crucible and in years past have included interactive clothing that responds to the body’s own electro-chemical state. Materials use often steps far beyond traditional textiles into custom shaped metallic elements.
The 2014 event will also feature a newly constructed runway paralleling the curvature of the golden mean, with new custom fire effects by Crucible staff and faculty, and music from Space Cowboys DJ Mancub. Entertainment will also include a Brazilian Carnival drum performance by Fogo Na Roupa, who will lead an interactive samba show with the models and audience, accompanied by The Crucible’s pyrotechnics team. Tickets are available at Eventbrite and the shows are sponsored by the East Bay Express.
The Crucible is a non-profit arts education and performance space located in West Oakland, and part of Oakland’s emerging industrial arts corridor.
