Long known for its inventive nouveau-Caribbean fare, Hibiscus recently reopened with an updated design; a different chef; a sleek, adjacent late-night lounge; and a newfound focus on the classic flavors of the American South. The menu changes often and can occasionally feel unnecessarily heavy, but standouts include the sweet-potato soup, the cornbread, and the silky-smooth, gravy-soaked mashed potatoes (even if the buttermilk-fried chicken under which they sit is a bit greasy). Service is prompt and friendly, and the food's sure to only get better as Hibiscus finds its footing in its new incarnation.
