Last year, the three sisters that make up Los Angeles’ HAIM experienced a meteoric rise to fame, appearing on Saturday Night Live, in the pages of Rolling Stone, and seemingly everywhere else. And the hype is more than justified. Days Are Gone, their debut album, is pop-rock perfection, with vocal harmonies and catchy melodies that recall Fleetwood Mac (although they cite more contemporary influences, such as R&B and hip-hop). The massive and nearly immediate success of Days Are Gone may have obscured the fact that sisters Alana, Este, and Danielle Haim are lifelong musicians, but their live show doesn’t. To put it succinctly, for a band that plays soft rock, HAIM rocks hard.
