Gum Kuo, which doubles as a takeout barbecue-duck joint and restaurant, gets a zero for decor, combining all the charm of a food court and a hole in the wall. But folks come here for homey Cantonese food, especially late at night. You’ll find noodles on most of the tables, along with steamed rice rolls, hot pots, and the house special clay-pot rice (it’s on the back page, in Chinese) cooked with Chinese sausage or chicken and mushrooms. And if you ask them nicely, the staff will help you pick out the good stuff.
