Even if you don’t know his name, you’re probably familiar with some of his hits (“No Turning Back,” “Like You,” and “Beautiful Life”). Brazilian electronic artist Gui Boratto is a talented craftsman with a blissful pop sensibility, which was evident on his critically acclaimed 2007 album Chromophobia. (Contrary to the album’s title, which refers to the abnormal fear of color, Boratto makes minimalist electronic music that’s vibrant, multilayered, and fun.) He distinguishes himself by mixing classic French house music with percussive Latin elements; his songs crescendo subtly and satisfyingly without ever devolving into an onslaught of noise. Catch him when he performs at the Regency Ballroom (1290 Sutter St., San Francisco) with another minimalist techno-house artist, veteran San Francisco DJ Nikola Baytala.
