Gretchen Rubin

When: Wed., Oct. 3, 5 p.m. 2012
Price: free

Gretchen Rubin terms September the start of the "Mother Olympics": With kids back to school, it's the true beginning of the year and time to take stock and get organized. Five years ago she wrote The Happiness Project to examine and derive every possible source of joy from her life, and this year sees the publication of Happier at Home, a project to trim personal possessions, spend more quality time with family and neighbors, and make home happier all round. The result is a down-to-earth memoir blended with surprisingly doable projects. Rubin reads on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Anthropologie (750 Hearst Ave., Berkeley). 5 p.m., free. RSVP required; email AnthroEvents (at) Anthropologie.com. 510-486-0705
