After Daryl Ross shut down struggling-yet-beloved Adagia, he decided to give the sophisticated farm-to-table spot a total overhaul. What emerged is Freehouse, a campus brewpub at the end of a row of frats. The menu still has whispers of its former greatness, and quality ingredients are clearly a priority to chef Kevin Kroger (Monk’s Kettle), but much of the pub grub is flawed or just uninteresting. The menu is almost beside the point, though. A bar/restaurant this close to campus, dramatically housed in a former church, has a student fanbase practically built in.
