Sitcom-ish social problem pic needs some severe polishing before it could even reach the level of, say, The Big Bang Theory. It centers on the hectic career and love life of an immigrant Silicon Valley tech worker named Vivek (Ali Fazal), who’s worried his H-1B visa won’t be renewed, forcing him to move back to India. The basic plot is workable, but writer-producer Rishi S. Bhilawadikar has no previous experience making motion pictures, and it shows, in the dialogue, situations, pacing, etc. Director Rucha Humnabadkar, with limited film credits, does what she can with the material, but the result is a movie that’s neither serious nor humorous enough, as if no one involved could tell the difference. Costarring Melanie Chandra as Vivek’s love interest and Amitosh Nagpal as a stereotypical foolish nerd (105 min., 2015, not rated) (K.V.)
