Re: “Ethiopian Café Anfilo in Oakland, Where The Food Is As Strong And Bold As The Coffee

the restaurants are more than they were a couple of decades ago when i tried the coffee in what seemed to be the only one on telegraph avenue. i have ethiopian ancestors. i am more sure of ancestors ethiopian than i am descendants as the older people in my family seem to connect easier in the african area than the younger generations in my family. my family is literally all over the san francisco bay area, especially oakland.

Re: “Oakland Nonprofit The Hood Incubator Helps Entrepreneurs Of Color Break Into The Cannabis Industry

when the public compares the welfare of blacks to whites, they do not consider the more stable members of the black community, they always focus on the noise that is being made to draw attention like the celebrities and athletes, etc. there is a mainstream in the black community as with the general community where every body is not making noise but just going about their business and living their own lives. if you were to ask many of these regulars if they had the chance to return to the days of the forties, fifties and sixties in this country many would gladly return to those days. everything is not about comparing these with those as some of us live our lives as absolutely as we can and are satisfied to do that without comparing themselves to others. we call this the good life and to be able to live the good life free of constant comparisons where it is already determined who will come up short. when i first entered college in the deep south, i know for a fact there were teachers in white schools that had nothing to do with degrees or credentials. it was just white business and no one else's. but, i had to get the degrees and then come back to the black community for sharing. with some cultures, there is the notion that if you keep those that might pose a threat to you in the dark, you won't have to do much yourself to stay ahead. keeping blacks in the dark via slavery, segregation, seperation and satanism has resulted in a general knowledge that any race, not just the white race in america can out pace blacks in this country. that is because all they do is pull out the comparison charts and as usual blacks always come up short. if blacks do not treat themselves as absolutes and equals, other races wil not either. why look around for god in someone else? it begins with you, it continues with you and it will end with you.

Re: “Letters of the Week: Skepticism of a Public Bank in Oakland

can't say we are not experiencing change in the east bay. we have moved from a 'melting pot' to a 'medical pot'. apparently, cannabis is not all bad.

Re: “The Old Mervyn's Headquarters in Hayward Underscores a Lack of Resources to Address the City's Homelessness Crisis

gee how the time flies, seems like just yesterday that the stores were in their heyday, but, all good things come to an end. i am sure the city will be glad to see the success of the housing project in any case. when SEARS goes, everything must follow, though.
