The chef at this vegetarian, all-organic spot in Oakland's warehouse district is Lacey Sher, former owner of New Jersey vegan restaurant Down to Earth. Once just a cafe and wine bar, Encuentro is now a full-service restaurant, with an extensive selection of appetizers and hearty entrées. The owners considered opening a vegan place, but in the end decided to serve cheese: After all, this place has a wide selection of organic wines from small, independent producers.
