.Dog Party at the Uptown on August 18

Journalists are the worst navel-gazers. We can’t help but brag about how we were the first writer to discover such-and-such band, or how we saw so-and-so artist live before they were cool. It’s like those annoying people who type “First!” on comment threads. Anyway, I’m no exception to the ignominy: Seven years ago, I wrote the first music feature ever on Dog Party, the sister duo based out of Sacramento — and now they’re a hella legit punk act! It’s exciting to witness the band’s success, what with a new release out on Asian Man Records this month, and a catchy album on Burger Records recently, too. Gwennie and Lucy Giles will wind up their epic summer tour this Thursday night with a headlining gig at The Uptown, so be there if you’re a fan of uptempo power drums, fuzzy guitars, and quick, catchy rock tunes. With openers Toy Guitar, Dirty Denim and the Total Bettys.
