The good news is that soprano Dawn Upshaw has survived her bout with breast cancer, and is reportedly performing better than ever. On Saturday, March 1, she returns to Cal Performances with OsvaldoGolijov'sAyre. This mesmerizing vocal masterpiece, accompanied by the dozen hand-picked musicians of Orquesta Los Pelegrinos, joins a rich program that also includes Stephen Hartke's "Meanwhile, incidental music to imaginary puppet plays," and George Crumb's "VoxBalaenae.", At Zellerbach Hall (Bancroft Way at Telegraph Ave., Berkeley). 8 p.m., $36-$68.
