Daringest Hair Salon

Alameda Beauty College

What could be more daring than letting a not-yet street-legal cosmetologist-in-training go at your head with a pair of scissors? One of the fantastic things about Alameda Beauty College is that its stylists are willing to take risks. Want blue hair? Fine. Want something daringly asymmetrical? They're up to the challenge. Fauxhawk? Puma stripes? Finger waves? Whatever. They'll try it. Let's face it: You're their homework and they're happy to do something other than their one billionth practice blowout. But let's also face it: Although the student's work is overseen by instructors who drop by frequently to give guidance, depending on the talent and experience of the student attending to your 'do, the quality of your cut may vary. And because the students are still learning, the whole process may take a while longer than you'd expect at your average salon (block out about two hours to sit in the chair). But how can you beat a haircut for $11 or a coloring session for $28 (or both for $32)? Be sure to tip well and make friends with any stylists you like, because once they pass their state boards and move on to working for the pricey salons, you'll want most-favored-client status.
